What Happened Last Week at The ATP Cup Finals?

Quarterfinals
9th January 2020
Quarterfinal 1: Australia beat Great Britain 2-1
Nick Kyrgios has played some of the best tennis in the tournament and yet the 24-year-old provide Australia with 1-0 lead with a comprehensive win over Cameron Norrie. Dan Evans than played some of his best tennis to equal the tie 1-1 with a 3rd set tie break win over Alex de Minaur. The doubles tie was a total drama. Both the teams had multiple match points but it was the Australian pair who won the match with 18-16 in the 3rd set.
Quarterfinal 2: Russia beat Argentina 3-0
Russian team proved too hot for the team Argentina. Karen Khachanov gave Russia a winning start beating Guido Pella in straight sets. Daniil Medvedev beat Diego Shwartzman in three sets. Russian pair also won their match.
10th January 2020
Quarterfinal 3: Serbia beat Canada 3-0
One of the finds for Serbia at the ATP Cup is Dusan Lajovic. Lajovic has lost just one match coming into the quarterfinal and yet the Serbian no 2 easily outclassed Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. Nocak Djokovic had to fight against an upcoming ATP star Denis Shapovalov. The Canadian won the first set and Djokovic won the match in 3rd set tie break.
Quarterfinal 4: Spain beat Belgium 2-1
Roberto Bautista Agut has won all his matches at the ATP Cup and once again he provided Spain with a victory. David Goffin then played the match of his life and defeat the world no 1 Rafael Nadal 6-4, 7-6. However, Nadal then combined with Pablo Carreno Busta sealed the match with 10-7 in the 3rd set. 
Semifinals
11th January 2020
Semifinal 1: Serbia beat Russia 3-0
Dusan Lajovic once again became the unsung hero of the night. Playing against Karen Kachanov, the Serb played some of his best tennis to win the match 7-5, 7-6. Novak Djokovic was up against Daniil Medvedev the 2019 US Open finalist. Outclassing Medvedev, Djokovic win the opening set 6-1 but Medvedev fought well to win the 2nd set 7-5 but Djokovic prevailed 6-4 in the 3rd set. Doubles tie was also won by Serbia.
Semifinal 2: Spain beat Australia 3-0
Robert Bautista Agut was off to a flying start against Nick Kyrgios leading by 4-0 in just 22 minutes. The Spaniard win his match 6-1, 6-4. Up next was Rafael Nadal versus upcoming Alex de Minaur. The young Australian had made Nadal play for every point from the start. De Minaur won the opening set 6-4. The 2nd set was a nail biting one with Nadal prevailing 7-5 and then eventually won the 3rd set 6-1.
 
Final
12th January 2020
Final: Serbia beat Spain 2-1
Serbia vs Spain. No 1 Seed vs No 2 Seed. Novak Djokovic vs Rafael Nadal. World no 2 vs World no 1. An epic final was set. Roberto Bautista Agut kept his unbeaten record in the tournament beating Dusan Lajovic in straight sets 7-5, 6-1. Then came the most anticipating match of the event, Novak Djokovic versus Rafael Nadal with Serb needed to win to keep the tie alive. It was a perfect start for Djokovic as he broke Nadal twice in the opening set and winning the set 6-2. The 2nd set, as expected was more competitive. Both the players played their best tennis, saving break points on crucial stages. In the end, Djokovic won their latest encounter and kept the tie alive for Serbia.
10 days, 24 teams, 3 cities, 128 matches and the winner will be decided by the last match of the ATP Cup. It was Novak Djokovic / Victor Troicki from Serbia and Pablo Carreno Busta / Feliciano Lopez of Spain. The Serbian pair was down a break early in the 1st set but recovered will to win the 1st set 6-3. The Serbians also put a comprehensive game in the 2nd set to take it 6-4. Serbia is the Champion of the inaugural ATP Cup 2020.
